Arm Twisting Continues Ahead of PBOR Vote

July 27, 2001 (PLANSPONSOR.com) ? Arm-twisting continued on the Hill yesterday, as GOP leaders tried to rein in defectors, and President Bush met with House leaders, including the co-sponsor of a competing version of a patients' bill of rights.

Exactly when the House might take up the debate on a patients’ bill of rights remains unclear. While some continue to say the discussions could begin next week, others continue to maintain that it will simply wait until after the August break.

Bush reportedly told a small group of lawmakers that he would consider higher limits on damages but did not name a specific figure in a meeting Thursday.
