BCBS of Tennessee Releases Alternative Medicine Discount Program

September 3, 2003 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Commercial members of Tennessee's BlueCross/BlueShield have a new alternative medicine discount program at their disposal - BluePerks.

Group members, individual policyholders, and those with Medicare supplemental coverage can now receive up to 30% savings on complementary alternative medicine (CAM) therapies as well as other health and wellness services offered through BluePerks, according to a news release. Among the therapies covered:

  • Acupuncture
  • Nutrition counseling
  • Spa services
  • Personalized fitness training
  • Vitamins
  • Magazine subscriptions
  • Tai Chi instruction

Separate from the traditional health plan, BluePerks does not require referrals or claims.   To utilize the program, members show their BlueCross membership ID card to any participating practitioner and pay the discounted price.

BluePerks CAM discounts are administered by American WholeHealth Networks, Inc. A list of participating practitioners and discounted services are available at  www.bcbst.com  under “BluePerks” or by calling (800) 227-5911.
