Blue Cross of California Launches New PPO Plan

October 31, 2002 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Blue Cross of California has introduced a new short-term Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plan.

The new plan offers temporary insurance coverage ranging from 30 to 185 days and can begin or end on any day of the month.   The premium is paid in a single payment, calculated per member, per day.

Blue Cross says the plan is an option for those ” seeking immediate coverage for a temporary period of time, or as interim coverage while waiting for an individual policy to be issued”.

The short term PPO, offered through Blue Cross affiliate BC Life & Health Insurance Company, allows access to a PPO network in California of 46,000 physicians and 450 hospitals.   Services include:

  • Emergency care
  • Hospitalization
  • Prescription drugs
  • Preventive health care
