Chao Fails to Disclose Position at Multacom

April 16, 2001 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - US Labor Secretary Elaine Chao failed to list her position on the board of privately held Multa Communications Corporation (Multacom) on her financial disclosure form, according to The New Republic magazine.

The disclosure form, which nominees to head government department our required to file with the U.S. Office of Government Ethics, shows 28 positions held outside the government by Chao, but makes no mention of Multacom.

Chao served on the company’s board from July 1, 2000 and resigned her position a month after took office, according to a Multacom spokesperson.

Commenting on disclosure forms, a spokesman for the ethics office said that an innocent omission would not generally trigger a penalty, but a penalty could be imposed if it were determined a person falsified or knowingly omitted information.
