Conflict-of-Interest Charges against Former Pension Officials Dropped

May 7, 2010 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Prosecutors have dropped conflict-of-interest charges against six former members of the San Diego pension board following a California Supreme Court ruling that dropped criminal charges against five of them.

A Superior Court judge dismissed the charges against Cathy Lexin, John Torres, Mary Vattimo, Sharon Wilkinson, and Ronald Saathoff at the request of the San Diego County district attorney’s office. The state high court had ruled that charges against Saathoff could move forward (see Charges Dismissed for Five Former San Diego Pension Board Members), but District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis dropped those charges as well, according to news reports.

Former pension system administrator Lawrence Grissom, former system lawyer Lorraine Chapin, Lexin, Webster, and Saathoff had federal fraud charges dismissed against them in April, but that decision has been appealed (see Feds File Appeal in SDCERS Pension Case).
