Dow Tumbling Again in Mid-Afternoon Trading
September 17, 2001 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Afternoon
trading volume was heavy, with new economy stocks and shares
at financial firms and airlines continuing to flag.
Reported by Camilla Klein
Losses in the Dow Industrials have fallen through to the 600-point mark reached this morning. The index fell back below the 9,000 psychological level and stood at 8917.17 at 3:06 PM.
Also, by mid-afternoon:
- Nasdaq had fallen by 109 points, and
- the S&P 500 had lost 52 points.
Some shares bucked the trend, with companies involved in the data storage and disaster recovery area, such as SunGard Data Systems, StorageNetworks, Comdisco Inc, Iron Mountain Inc rising as investors predict an increase in this sector’s profitability as the financial district rebuilds its infrastructure.
