Hedging Boosts Average Feb. Hedge Fund Return

March 7, 2001 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - The average US hedge fund slipped 2.3% in February, outpacing major US stock indexes for the month, according to Van Hedge Fund Advisors International.

While hedge funds didn’t fare as well as the US equity market in January, hedged positions in February also spared the funds some of February’s plunge.  Preliminary estimates suggest the Average U.S. Hedge Fund is 0.7% higher year-to-date.

Van noted that short sellers are leading all other hedge fund category returns, while market neutral strategies also posted gains.
