HIPAA Deadline for Small Plans Approaches
April 11, 2006 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - The compliance
deadline for the Health Insurance Portability and
Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) is April 21 for entities
that fall under the act's definition of small
plans.

The rule addresses circumstances for health plans’ release of patient information to different parties. The department of Health and Human Services (HSS) issued the final rule in February (See HHS Releases Final HIPAA Enforcement Regs).
The department issued additional clarifications in March (See HHS Clarifies Medical Info Release ).
