Horizon Behavioral Releases Mental Health Kit

May 19, 2003 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Employee and employers alike are being offered a new product to combat lost productivity due to mental health issues.

“Mental Health Solutions Everyday” is being offered in conjunction with mental health month by Horizon Behavioral Services. The kit stresses the importance of caring for your mental health as part of your everyday routine and includes a mental health tips newsletter, tips to improve your mental health, information on child and adolescent depression and checklists for stress and depression, according to the company Web site.

Horizon estimates that mental health contributes to 217 million workdays being completely or partially lost among employees ages 18 through 54. Depression alone costs American business an estimated $30 to $44 billion, with over half of this cost derived from absenteeism and lost productivity.

“It doesn’t make sense for employers to ignore the impact of depression on their employees or their bottom line. The good news is depression treatments are effective,” said Dorothy Harrison, vice president, of Horizon’s EAP Division, in a statement. “Organizations need to help employees learn to recognize and cope with depression and job-related stress, so that employees can get help and lead productive and rewarding lives.”
