Insurance Provider Offers Disability Web Site

September 21, 2006 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Small company employers can learn about disability insurance issues in the workplace at a new Web site from an insurance provider.

A news release from Assurant Employee Benefits of Kansas City said its new DisabilityEducationCenter helps employers understand:

  • the risks of disability,
  • the different types of disability income protection available, and
  • the importance of reading and understanding key details of a disability insurance policy.

“The risk of a disabling illness or injury is much, much higher than other risks that people commonly insure themselves against, including home fires, auto accidents and death,” said Mark Bohen, senior vice president of marketing and customer relations at Assurant Employee Benefits, in the news release . “Small business owners are like most people in that they typically underestimate that risk. They need to consider, for example, what issues a key employee – or the small business – would face if an injury or illness kept them off the job for months or even years.”
