Insurer Releases Health Care Debit Gift Card

November 26, 2007 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - A Pittsburgh-based health insurer has released a Visa debit card product that can be used to pay for a variety of health care expenses and that can be given as a holiday gift.

A news release from   Highmark Inc. said its Healthcare Visa Gift Card can be used for co-pays at doctors’ offices and pharmacies or for vision care, dental care, health club memberships, and elective procedures.  The card can also be used online where Visa debit cards are accepted.

The announcement said the card can be used regardless of health insurance coverage. It is issued by MetaBank pursuant to a license from Visa U.S.A.

“By purchasing Healthcare Gift Cards for their loved ones, consumers can avoid long lines, traffic and crowds,” said Kim Bellard, vice president of eMarketing, in the announcement  “It also lets recipients know that you are thinking about them and their overall wellness, which is sometimes more valuable than many more typical gift ideas.”
