IRS Hosting Webinar About PCORI Fee

May 14, 2014 (PLANSPONSOR.com) – The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will hold a free webinar about the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) fee certain health care plan sponsors must pay.

The IRS’ Office of Federal, State and Local Governments will be holding the webinar on May 29 at 12 p.m. Eastern Time.

The webinar will cover:

  • What the Patient Center Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) fee is;
  • Who is responsible for the fee; and
  • How to calculate, pay and report the fee.

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (or ACA) amended the Social Security Act to establish the PCORI, which is generally tasked with conducting research to evaluate and compare the clinical effectiveness, risks and benefits of various medical treatments, services, procedures, drugs, and other strategies that treat, manage, diagnose or prevent illness or injury.

The ACA has also imposed new annual fees on health insurers and sponsors of self-insured health plans to help fund PCORI (see “SECOND OPINIONS: Comparative Effectiveness Fees – Part II”).
