Kenyatta Matheny to Administer IL TRS Emerging Manager Program

May 19, 2010 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Kenyatta K. Matheny has been named an investment officer for the Illinois Teachers’ Retirement System and will administer the System’s Emerging Managers Program.

According to a TRS announcement, Matheny, who has 15 years of experience in high level institutional investments, comes to TRS from the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, where he was a financial markets manager: central bank services. Prior to joining the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, Matheny served in numerous positions at banks and financial management firms in Chicago.  

Matheny earned a Bachelor of Science degree in public finance and economics from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, in 1995; and in 2009 earned a Master’s Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in finance from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business, where he also was a Robert A. Toigo Fellow.  

The Emerging Managers Program at TRS is designed to create and foster long-term relationships between the System and new or growing investment management firms, with a focus on minority and female-owned companies and Illinois-based organizations. In 2005, the TRS Board of Trustees committed $500 million in TRS assets to the Emerging Managers Program, the announcement said.
