MassMutual Takes Morningstar Advice

July 23, 2001 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - MassMutual Retirement Services will offer plan sponsor clients access to investment advice and guidance from Morningstar Associates, by year-end.

For the first time, Morningstar will create a fully customized version of its ClearFuture online retirement planning advice service, to be integrated with MassMutual’s record keeping platform.

The service will be available to some 600,000 defined contribution and defined benefit plan participants serviced by MassMutual Retirement Services.

The feature be presented in visual style of The Journey, the provider’s investment education and retirement planning site, and participants will be able to select from a menu of services. These include:

  • basic education regarding investments and retirement,
  • account information and transactions,
  • guidance in asset allocation based goals, plan options and risk tolerance, and
  • investment strategy advice

Available through 14,000 corporate retirement plans, ClearFuture uses a goals-based approach to allow participants to examine the relationships between long- and short-term risk, asset mix and income for retirement planning.

The service then provides either asset allocation suggestions or specific investment advice by creating one optimal portfolio, using the options available in the participant’s retirement plan.

In addition, Morningstar provides custom research profiles of the plan?s investment options as well as research reports on any open-end mutual funds offered in a plan.
