MercerIC: US Equity Manager Searches Most Frequent in 2004

May 4, 2005 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Managers to run US equity mandates were the most sought after last year among those found by Mercer Investment Consulting (MercerIC) with 90 searches accounting for $6 billion in assets placed.

Next after that, according to a MercerIC news release, was global equity. It had been the most popular category for the previous two years with MercerIC conducting 85 searches during 2004 with $9 billion worth of assets placed.

Among the categories of searches, MercerIC said currency overlay attracted the greatest increase in interest with 28 searches and $10 billion worth of assets placed during 2004 – compared with eight such searches the year before.

Generally, MercerIC said its 2004 search activity was strong, reaching an all-time high in terms of assets placed. Overall, the firm carried out 764 manager searches globally during 2004 with those searches accounting for $84 billion worth of assets placed, up 27% from 2003.
