MetLife Adds Expatriate Health Services

April 26, 2013 (PLANSPONSOR.com) – MetLife has added two new health care support offerings for its expatriate customers.

According to MetLife, one new feature will give expatriate customers access to wellness information and tools online at www.metlifeexpat.com. Through WebMD Health Services, a division of WebMD that offers a suite of health management services for large employers and health plans, customers will be able to:

  • Create a personal profile by entering their health records;
  • Assess potential health risks;
  • Receive a personalized health plan;
  • Track more than 20 wellness metrics as they adopt new health practices and activities; and
  • Learn more about hundreds of health topics and conditions.

MetLife has also added a second opinion tool to provide additional information when employees must consider surgery or are confronted with a serious illness while abroad. The new service employs WorldCare to connect a patient’s local doctor and medical records with an appropriate medical center to address the condition and recommend the best treatment. Follow-up communication and consultation between the local physician and the second opinion provider can be arranged as well.

MetLife clients can contact WorldCare, a Boston-based company, to access U.S. hospitals, including Boston Children’s Hospital, Duke Medicine, the Mayo Clinic, Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Dana-Farber/Partners CancerCare, Penn Medicine and UCLA Health System.

“These medical support tools help enhance the value of our expatriate benefits program to our customers who are living and working in extremely diverse environments across the globe,” said David Nagengast, vice president, Global Employee Benefits.
