Morningstar Enhances Advisor Workstation Office Edition

July 18, 2006 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Morningstar has added a portfolio accounting system (PAS) to its Web-based financial planning platform for independent advisors.

According to a company announcement, the enhancement to its Advisor Workstation Office Edition includes importing capabilities, portfolio tracking, portfolio performance reporting, and accounting functionality. Advisors will also be able to merge client accounting reports with Morningstar investment data and portfolio analytics.

The new PAS also features:

  • Eighteen customizable reports such as net worth statements, realized and unrealized gain/loss reports, and management fee reports;
  • More choices of securities, transaction types and expense and fee transactions; and
  • Automatic daily client account importing capabilities.


“Portfolio accounting is a critical element of any independent financial advisor’s business,” said Chris Boruff, president of Morningstar’s Advisor business, in the release. 

Advisors using the enhanced version of the platform can produce PAS statements separately or with other analytical reports such as Morningstar investment profiles, X-Ray reports, and asset allocation summaries to provide customized reports for clients.

Morningstar Advisor Workstation Office Edition contains data on more than 60,000 securities, stocks, mutual funds, exchange-traded funds, closed-end funds, separate accounts and variable insurance products, as well as hedge funds (See Morningstar Opens Hedge Fund Database ) and offshore funds.
