Morningstar Launches Enhanced Data System
March 2, 2005 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Morningstar Inc.
has introduced Morningstar Direct, a Web-based global
research platform that is meant to replace an older version
of the product, Morningstar DataLab.

Morningstar Direct monitors global markets and offers clients investment statistics on US, European, and offshore mutual funds and other investment vehicles. Its predecessor, DataLab, only offered institutional investment professionals with US data on mutual funds, separate accounts and variable annuities, according to a press release from the company.
Morningstar Direct also offers information on hedge funds and fund of funds, according to the press release. Exchange-traded fund and closed-end fund information is also offered through the program.
Modifications have also been made to the program in hopes of enhancing functionality and user-friendliness, the company claims. These processes include allowing deeper searches, more targeted research, and more meaningful reports, according to Morningstar.
