Nationwide Introduces Health Services Company

September 7, 2006 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Nationwide Mutual Insurance has announced the launch of Nationwide Better Health, a health and productivity services company for employers and their employees.

According to the announcement, Nationwide Better Health offers services under two main categories:

  • Better For Life provides disease, medical (case and utilization) and maternity management, and health promotion; and
  • Better For Work provides absence, leave and disability management.

Additionally, Nationwide announced the new company’s integrated disease and disability management offering. The key to the offering is the company’s ability of to intervene when a disability claim is made. The program identifies individual needs and provides individuals with the tools and information they need to return to work quicker and make better health decisions, the announcement said.

A team of nurses, physicians, Ph.D.’s and others assigns employees to appropriate programs, emphasizing disease prevention, early detection, education and accountability. A health coach then provides employees with personalized guidance and support, as well as access to specialized health care services to improve and maintain their health.

Nationwide Better Health, based in Columbus, Ohio, was formed by combining the resources of GatesMcDonald, a firm specializing in absence and disability management, and FutureHealth, a firm specializing in disease, population health and medical management.
