Northern Trust Announces More Personnel Changes

January 22, 2010 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Northern Trust has announced several personnel changes this past week.

Alan Robertson has been appointed Global Head, Sales and Service, for Northern Trust Global Investments (NTGI), the multi-asset class investment management business of Northern Trust Corporation. According to the announcement, in this newly-created position, Robertson will oversee sales, client service and product management in all regions and “align resources more explicitly with NTGI’s personal and institutional distribution channels”.

Robertson, who has been CEO and President of Northern Trust Global Advisors (NTGA), the multi-manager arm of Northern Trust Corp since 2007, is based in Chicago and reports directly to Stephen N. Potter, president of NTGI.  Joseph McInerney, who has been chief operating officer of NTGA, was promoted to President and CEO, succeeding Robertson. McInerney is based in Stamford, Connecticut, and reports to Robertson, according to a press release.

Previous Roles

Before leading NTGA, Robertson served as group head, wealth advisory services, in Northern Trust’s Personal Financial Services business. Previously, he was managing director, NTGI product management, marketing, and operations and technology, responsible for developing and managing the full array of Northern Trust’s investment management products. Prior to joining Northern Trust, Robertson held various senior positions in the investment management business.

“This new, global position is an exciting opportunity to develop our solutions-led organization, with multiple capabilities brought together seamlessly for our clients in all regions,” Robertson said. “Working with Chief Investment Officer Bob Browne and his portfolio management teams, we will bring a depth of expertise around our investment capabilities to better meet the increasingly complex needs and demands of our clients.”

McInerney has been COO of NTGA since 2005, responsible for day-to-day operations and administration processes as well as the continued development of its infrastructure, operations, technology and strategy. Prior to this role, McInerney served as the Senior Product Manager for alternative investments, responsible for the development, evaluation and maintenance of Northern Trust hedge fund of funds and private equity fund of funds programs for both personal and institutional markets.  Previously, he led the audit group responsible for the oversight of the treasury and investment management functions of the Northern Trust Corporation. Before joining Northern Trust, he was a Senior Bank Examiner for the State of Illinois Office of Banks and Real Estate.

Earlier this week it was announced that financial services industry veteran Lyle Logan had been tapped to  lead a new Global Financial Institutions Group, which Northern Trust said was created to strengthen relationships with the world’s largest financial institutions to maximize business growth and revenue opportunities in the segment (see Northern Trust Establishes Global Financial Institutions Group).
