Northern Trust Names Client Services Leader

May 28, 2014 (PLANSPONSOR.com) – Northern Trust Asset Management announced two leadership appointments designed to address key growth areas.

Jason J. Tyler, the firm’s head of Corporate Strategy and Market Development, will join the Asset Management business as head of Client Solutions. He will have oversight of institutional sales, client relationship management and advisory services, including the Outsourced Chief Investment Officer practice.

Shundrawn A. Thomas, executive vice president and managing director of FlexShares, the firm’s exchange-traded fund (ETF) business, will expand his responsibilities to oversee all fund activities, including Northern Funds, Northern Institutional Funds and financial intermediary distribution. He will focus on distribution of ETFs and mutual funds through financial advisers and other intermediary channels.

Tyler has been senior vice president and head of Corporate Strategy since joining Northern Trust in 2011, coordinating strategic planning and merger and acquisition activity for the company. With 21 years of financial services experience, Tyler came to Northern Trust from Ariel Investments, where he served as director of Research Operations. Previously, he was a manager in corporate planning at Bank One/American National Bank in Chicago. He earned an A.B. from Princeton University and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business.

Thomas has 20 years of industry experience and has led FlexShares since 2011. Previously, he held senior level positions at Northern Trust including president and chief executive of Northern Trust Securities, Inc., and head of Corporate Strategy. Prior to Northern Trust, he worked at Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley in sales, trading and research positions. He received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Florida A&M University and an M.B.A. with concentrations in finance and accounting from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business.
