Paper Publishers Build Resumes With Headhunter.net Acquisition

August 27, 2001 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Newspaper publishers Knight Ridder and Tribune have acquired online recruiter Headhunter.net for $200 million, planning to combine its features and distribution with jointly owned CareerBuilder.

The combined company will reach more than 5 million customers and provide recruitment opportunities to 25,000 companies, according to the firms. The new combination will place CareerBuilder in the same league as Monster.com, in the job advertising wars.

In September, both Knight Ridder and Tribune will begin branding their newspaper recruitment advertising as CareerBuilder help wanted sections.
