Pomeroy Joins Alston & Bird

January 18, 2011 (PLANSPONSOR.com) – Former U.S. Congressman Earl Pomeroy (D-North Dakota) has hung up a new shingle at a Washington, D.C. law firm.

Alston & Bird has announced the addition of long-time pension advocate Pomeroy and his chief of staff, Bob Siggins to the firm.  According to the announcement, Pomeroy and Siggins join what the firm termed “other Alston & Bird health care notables”, such as Former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole,  Tom Scully, the former administrator of CMS, and recent additions Kimberly Brandt, the former director of the Medicare Program Integrity Group for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Michael Park, a former health policy counsel of the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance, and Paula Stannard, former deputy general counsel and acting general counsel of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

Tom Scully, Senior Counsel to Alston & Bird, commented, “Earl Pomeroy has been one of the most-respected and best liked Members of Congress who is known for working well with both Republicans and Democrats.  He has been deeply involved in health policy issues for 30 years, as a state legislator, Insurance Commissioner and President of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, and for the last nine terms where he has served on the House Ways and Means Committee.  As a member of both the Ways and Means Committee and the Agriculture Committee, Congressman Pomeroy had a huge impact for two decades on a range of issues beyond health care, including agriculture, trade, insurance, employee benefits and energy issues.”

Richard Hays, Alston & Bird’s managing partner added, “We have been focused on expanding our very successful health care practice, and we are thrilled to have them both join our team.  Our clients will be well served by Congressman Pomeroy’s insight into Congress and his knowledge of the many issues he addressed during his years of public service.”
