Principal Announces Education Web Site

July 15, 2008 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - The Principal Financial Group has launched a Web site designed to furnish retirement plan participants with financial tips and tools to help them spend less and save more.

A Principal news release said the site is designed to be an extension of the magazine “Plan Ahead. Get Ahead, ” which provides participant financial education. The new Web site complements the magazine by offering additional retirement planning and topical financial information targeted at varying life stages.

“Participants want online access to financial tools and education. They also want information that is pertinent their particular life stage,” said Barrie Christman, vice president, Individual Investor Services at The Principal, in the announcement. “That’s why our magazine and the new Web site offer user-friendly and easy-to-understand tips and tools for workers at the beginning, middle, and end of their careers.”

At the “ Plan Ahead. Get Ahead” site, participants can find answers to questions such as:

  • How can I develop a retirement plan?
  • How can I save more money?
  • How do I make my savings last throughout retirement?
  • Should I bail out of the stock market?
  • What financial moves should I make as a new parent?
  • What can I do to cut my health care costs?
  • Is there such a thing as “good” debt?

The online version of “ Plan Ahead. Get Ahead.” also offers calculators and other tools to help workers make smart financial decisions. Workers who participate in their employer’s retirement plan from The Principal, for example, can access their account information directly from the Web site.

Participants also have access to My Principal Edge Milestones, an interactive program that helps workers analyze their financial needs and develop a personalized action plan.
