REITs Return 3% in June

July 1, 2004 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - The NAREIT Composite Index rose 2.99% in June and is now up 5.17% for the year on a total return basis.

Strongest among the NAREIT Composite’s components was the Hybrid REIT Index that was up 9.14% for the month, followed by a 3.44% return in the Mortgage REIT Index.   The other two components were positive in June as well, with the Equity REIT Index returning 2.93% and the Real Estate 50 Index returning 2.65%, according to data provided by the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts (NAREIT). 

June’s performance of the Composite followed a 7.06% May increase.

By comparison in the broader markets, the S&P 500 ended the month up 1.94%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average finished with a 2.42% showing while the NASDAQ composite finished up 3.07%.
