Roth Features

Roth provisions continue to rise across all plan sizes. Overall, 77% of 401(k) and 403(b) plans now support Roth contributions, whereby participants enjoy tax-free growth on after-tax deferrals. Adoption is highest among the largest plans, and it now rivals other widely regarded industry best practices—e.g., use of target-date funds (TDFs), investment policy statements (IPSs), etc. The percentage of plans allowing for in-plan Roth conversions also jumped this year, to 46%, marking the first time plans offering, or considering offering, Roth conversions have topped 50%.
