Methodology

The benchmarking data included here represent preliminary findings from the 2021 PLANSPONSOR Defined Contribution (DC) Survey, an annual online survey of plan sponsors conducted from September to November. The questionnaire explores plan design features, investment offerings, oversight practices and participant outcomes. The regions listed when responses are broken down by geography are based on the U.S. census divisions and regions, which can be viewed here. Survey results are meant to inform existing plan governance processes; the insights summarized here do not represent advice on any aspect of plan design.
