In New Hampshire, hanging is allowed only if lethal injection cannot be used. The law in the state of Washington provides that lethal injection will be used unless the inmate requests hanging.Delaware law allows hanging as an alternative for those whose offense occurred prior to 6/13/86, but as of July 2003 no inmates on death row were eligible to choose this alternative, and Delaware dismantled its gallows.
