TRIVIAL PURSUITS: Which Car Set World Record for Mileage?

December 4, 2012 – With what make and model car was the Guinness world record set for most miles driven by a single owner?

In 1998 Irv Gordon made the Guinness Book of World Records for most miles driven by a single owner in a non-commercial vehicle as his red 1966 Volvo P1800 reached 1.69 million miles. Then in March 2002, he drove the car’s two-millionth mile down Times Square to national and international media attention.

In 2010, the mileage on the car was more than 2.8 million, and the 72-year-old Gordon expects to reach 3 million miles by his 73rd birthday in July 2013. Since retiring in 1996, he has driven more than 100,000 miles per year.
