December 29, 2009 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - In 1902, the Tournament of Roses Association decided to enhance the day's festivities…by adding a football game. 

In fact, that was the first national, post-season, collegiate football game, with Stanford University taking on the University of Michigan.  It didn’t turn out to be a very exciting game – Stanford lost 49-0 (and gave up in the third quarter).
