Conference Board Unveils Mature Workforce Employer Practices Database

December 17, 2007 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - The Conference Board has launched an Employer-Practices Locator, a Web-based database that includes specific actions employers have taken to address challenges presented by the mature workforce.

Searchable by keyword or company name, the database selects and summarizes material from print and online sources from 1996 to the present, a news release said. Th e resulting list is more select than a user would get using a regular Web search engine and includes a broader range of companies and industries than the examples that are most frequently cited, according to the announcement.

A search will produce a citation for each reference, its length and a summary of its content, including companies mentioned and related keywords. With this information, users can determine which articles, books, or other items would be most relevant or useful. A URL is also provided, when available, so the user can immediately click through to the source.

Industries covered in the database include health care, utilities, transportation, chemicals, manufacturing, and government. It is geared for the needs of HR executives, benefits managers, diversity officers, talent managers, pensions/retirements experts, as well as knowledge managers and CFOs, the Conference Board said.

The database will be updated monthly and includes practices of more than 250 companies. Users can narrow their search using any of 23 keywords, such as phased retirement, multigenerational workplace, or recruitment.

“The database answers the question: ‘Who is doing what in the fast-growing world of the mature workforce,'” says Linda Barrington, Director of Research for The Conference Board, in the announcement. “Any employer working with this important labor sector – which is virtually everyone-or writing about it or analyzing it in any way should take a look at the wealth of resources the Locator has to offer in an extremely practical manner.”
