Report: Hedge Funds Beat Equities in July

August 8, 2002 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Hedge funds outperformed the major equity indices last month, according to a preliminary report from Van Hedge Fund Advisors.

The Average US Hedge Fund lost 2.1% net of fees in July. In comparison, the S&P 500 fell 7.8% last month while the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 5.4% and the NASDAQ tumbled 9.2%.

Final July results for the Van Hedge Fund Indices, detailing the average performance for US, Offshore and Global hedge funds, by strategy, will be released later this month.

The Nashville, Tennessee-based company’s hedge fund index information is based on returns received from the hedge funds. Hedge fund returns are net of fees and performance allocations.
