Unger to Leave SEC at Year End

October 9, 2001 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Securities and Exchange Commissioner Laura Unger plans to leave the agency by the close of 2001.

Unger, whose five-year term expired in June this year, was named acting chairman of the SEC in February after former Chairman Arthur Levitt stepped down and headed the agency until Harvey Pitt was confirmed in August.

Unger plans to pursue a career in the private sector but has not yet accepted a position. She told Dow Jones that she plans to do so only once new commissioners are confirmed by the Senate in order to avoid potential conflicts of interest.
