Average Weekly Earnings Up from a Year Ago
The increase stemmed from a 0.1% increase in average hourly earnings. Average weekly hours and the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) were unchanged, according to a BLS announcement.
The BLS said average weekly earnings rose by 1.3%, seasonally adjusted, from April 2008 to April 2009. After deflation by the CPI-W, average weekly earnings increased by 2.6%.
Before adjustment for seasonal change and inflation, average weekly earnings were $607.13 in April 2009, compared with $603.12 a year earlier.
