Blitzstein Joins PBGC Advisory Committee

June 16, 2011 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - According to a recent press release, David S. Blitzstein has been sworn in as a member of the Advisory Committee of the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation.  

Blitzstein was appointed to the post by President Obama for a term that expires in 2014. The release stated that Blitzstein currently serves as the special assistant for multiemployer plans for the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW). He is also a trustee of six Taft-Hartley pension funds and a health fund representing half a million participants.   

Blitzstein previously served as the director of the Negotiated Benefits Department of the UFCW and currently represents the UFCW as a member of the steering committee of the National Coordinating Committee for Multiemployer Plan, serves as a director of the Pension Research Council of the Wharton School, and is a trustee of the Maryland State Retirement and Pension Systems.  He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and earned his M.S. in labor studies from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
