Sexual Harassment Significant Occurrence in Swiss Workplaces

January 16, 2008 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - A study conducted by Switzerland's Federal Gender Equality Office and the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs found that 51.3% of workers in Switzerland encounter some type of sexual harassment while on the job.

Business Insurance reports the most common type of harassing sexual behavior against both men and women involves inappropriate jokes and comments, according to the study. Males in the study suffer more offensive telephone calls, emails, and other correspondence, while females are often victims of inappropriate physical contact and ogling.

The government offices accompanied their study with a campaign that provides brochures and Internet-based resources to educate employees and employers on the problem of sexual harassment.
