Workers Show a Hint of Doubt

July 3, 2008 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - The Spherion Employee Confidence Index dropped 0.8 points to 46.1 in June - a record low for the year.

A news release said personal confidence dipped slightly in June with 63% of workers reporting confidence in the future of their current employer and 49% indicating confidence in their ability to find a new job, a decrease of 1% and 2%, respectively.

On the other hand, the poll, conducted by Harris Interactive for the staffing company, reveals 12% of workers say they believe there are more jobs available and 7% say the economy is getting stronger. J ob security has increased slightly with 76% of workers saying they are unlikely to lose their job in the next year and 34% indicating they are not likely to look for a job in the next year – down by one percentage point.

The June 2008 Spherion Employment Tracker was conducted online within the United States between June 2-4 and June 10-12, 2008, among a U.S. sample of 2,589 employed adults, age 18 years and older.

Spherion said a reading above 50 indicates a positive confidence level.
