Aaron's Manager Acquitted Despite $95M Civil Assault Verdict
The acquittal comes just three months after a federal jury delivered a $95 million verdict against Richard G. Moore and Aaron’s in a related civil suit.
Following a three-day trial, an Illinois jury found Moore not guilty of sexually abusing Ashley Alford at the Aaron’s store where they both worked in Fairview Heights, Illinois.
According to the article, Moore was accused of sexually harassing and assaulting Alford between November 2005 and October 2006, when he resigned as store manager.
A federal jury in June awarded Alford $95 million, $50 million of which was punitive damages. In August, a judge reduced the award to $41.3 million because of statutory caps.
The case is Alford v. Aaron’s Rents Inc., Ill. No. 3:08-CV-00683.
