Accused Japanese Porn Surfer Suspended for 90 Days

May 2, 2008 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - A public employee in western Japan who officials said spent much of his work day surfing Internet porn sites has been suspended from his post for three months and demoted.

Reuters quotedKinokawa City official Kazuhiko Ueyama as sayingthat the unnamed 57-year-old employee of the construction division of Kinokawa City spent up to three hours daily every day for eight months starting in June 2007 surfing various porn sites on a city-owned computer. The city only found out about his activities in February when it noticed his computer had picked up the same virus repeatedly from the sites, Ueyama told Reuters.

“These were foreign ‘adult sites’ and they got through the security net” that the city had installed for its computers, he said. “The man apologized each time we spoke to him, but we couldn’t quite get him to explain to us why he did this,” Ueyama added, according to the news account.

After the city’s action was announced, angered citizens called city hall all day, saying the suspension was not enough, according to the official.
