Advantus Hires Leader of Institutional Accounts

June 8, 2011 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Julie Gerend joined Advantus Capital Management as senior vice president, Institutional Accounts and Insurance Advisory Sales, effective May 31.

Gerend leads Advantus’ Institutional and Insurance Advisory client service and sales initiatives for institutional clients nationwide. She is based in St. Paul, Minnesota, and reports to Chris Sebald, executive vice president and chief investment officer.  

According to a press release, prior to joining Advantus, Gerend served as marketing director at Blue Rock Advisors in Wayzata, Minnesota, and was senior vice president and director of client service and marketing at Peregrine Capital Management in Minneapolis. She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and earned an MBA from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minnesota, where she also has served as an adjunct professor of finance. In 2004, Gerend was named one of the Top Women in Finance in the Twin Cities by Finance and Commerce.
