Advisory Council on Employee Welfare and Pension Benefit Plans to Meet in September

August 24, 2001 (PLANSPONSOR.com-The full Advisory Council on Employee Welfare and Pension Benefit Plans will meet September 12 after this year's working groups have completed hearing testimony from witnesses.

Testimony will be heard by the working groups on their various topics on September 11 and 12 at the US Department of Labor’s offices in Washington, D.C.

The full Council session will take place on the afternoon of September 12, at which time the chairs of the working groups will report on their progress toward completing their reports and making recommendations to the Secretary of Labor before November 14, the end of the current Council year.

On September 11, the Working Group on Increasing Pension Coverage will convene from 9 a.m. until noon, followed at 1 p.m. by the Working Group on Preparing for Retirement.

The following morning the third Working Group, which is studying Challenges to the Employment Based Healthcare System, will hold its hearing.

The ERISA Advisory Council consists of 15 members appointed to staggered three-year terms by the Secretary to advise on policies and regulations affecting employee benefit plans offered by private sector employers.

The members represent the general public, employer and employee organizations and the fields of insurance, corporate trust, investment management and advisors, accounting, and actuarial services.
