Aetna Expands EAP to Aid Haiti Earthquake Victim Families

January 19, 2010 (PLANSPONSOR.com) – Insurer Aetna has opened its employee assistance program (EAP) to all members, employees, and their families with loved ones affected by the Haiti earthquake.

An Aetna news release said Aetna Behavioral Health is offering its EAP to all Aetna plan sponsors, whether they are Aetna EAP customers or not.

The company said it is also offering evacuation for customers with employees in Haiti needing medical evacuation and expediting life insurance claim processing.  Aetna Global Benefits’ International Health Advisory Team is available as a point of contact to provide members with additional support, which includes the coordination of the medical trips out of the country, Aetna said.

“We are greatly saddened by this tragedy, and we extend our thoughts and deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of those affected,” said Chairman and CEO Ronald A. Williams, in the news release. “Our members and employees with family members in Haiti are of the utmost concern to us, and we are committed to supporting them through this difficult time.”

In addition, the news release said the Aetna Foundation has initiated a dollar-for-dollar match for employee disaster relief donations to help the relief efforts in Haiti. Aetna’s Community Relations group has activated its 47 Aetna Volunteer Councils to engage with relief agencies to respond to the disaster by collecting goods and funds and offering other assistance.
