American Century Puts Out Ed/Advice Product

April 7, 2005 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - American Century Investments is rolling on its On Plan Investing education and advice product.

An American Century news release said the new product is free and is made up of education tools, advice and guidance, market insight and investment products. The program will be delivered by phone, face-to-face or over the Internet, the company said.

“Our recent research suggests that investors continue to grapple with some of the most basic investment concepts, suggesting a greater need for financial advice and guidance,” said Doug Lockwood, vice president of Investor Guidance at American Century, in the news release. “At the same time, we know many Americans who, either by choice or portfolio size, don’t have access to guidance in the financial advisor community.

The program components include:

  • Advice and Guidance – . The Investment Consultant will help construct a strategic asset allocation plan that has an appropriate mix of American Century stock, bond and money market funds. For those who want guidance, but also want to maintain a measure of “hands-on” control over their mix of investments, the Investment Consultant may recommend one of five Portfolio Plans — blueprints for a diversified, risk-based portfolio of recommended American Century stock, bond and money market funds. The Portfolio Plans range from very conservative to very aggressive.
  • Core Investment Principles –  To help investors build and position their portfolios with a long-term perspective, On Plan Investing incorporates investment practices — including long-term investing, investing regularly, being fully invested and building and maintaining a diversified portfolio — that are designed to help reduce risk and the need to attempt to time the market.
