Americans Make Vacation Plans Despite Slump

June 18, 2002 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - The economy may be limping along, but Americans are going ahead with their vacation plans anyway, a new survey by TrueCareers, an online staffing firm finds.

Of the survey’s 1,184 respondents, 61% said that they planned to take a vacation this year despite the economic climate. Of the remainder, 68% are staying put for financial reasons.

Results of the survey show that:

  • 24% of respondents are concerned about job instability,
  • while 44% are concerned about the cost of vacationing they feel that taking time off is important,
  • 53% of respondents say that their employers encourage them to take a vacation through company policies, and
  • 42% of respondents spend their vacations at home or with their families
