AMEX to Trade Options on ETFs

October 10, 2001 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - The American Stock Exchange (AMEX) will begin trading in options on the Barclays Global Investor iShares S&P 100 Index Fund tomorrow.

The listing of these options will bring the number of options on exchange traded funds (ETFs) at the AMEX to 19, and is the first time that any options based on the S&P 100 Index will be competitively traded on multiple exchanges.

iShares S&P 100 Index Fund options will trade on the March expiration cycle, with position limits of 13,500 contracts. The specialist will be Equitec Proprietary Markets, LLC.

iShares S&P 100 Index Fund seeks investment results that correspond to the performance of US large-cap stocks, as represented by the S&P 100 Index. IShares trades like an individual stock, but offers investment diversification of an index.

The AMEX has listed 107 ETFs to date, and is the second-largest options exchange in the US.
