Average Hedge Fund Registers Slight June Gain

July 10, 2001 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Preliminary estimates show the Average U.S. Hedge Fund returned 1.5% net in June, according to Steven A. Lonsdorf, CEO of Van Hedge Fund Advisors International, Inc., a global hedge fund advisory firm.

For the second quarter, hedge funds lagged the major indices, returning 5.6% net.

However, on a year-to-date basis, the Average U.S. Hedge Fund recorded an estimated net year-to-date return of 4.4%, while the Dow, S&P 500, NASDAQ and Wilshire 5000 reported negative returns.

According to the hedge fund advisory firm, over 68% of those hedge funds reporting so far in June have recorded a gain for the month. Just one of the 14 investment strategies tracked has posted a loss in June.

Final June performance for U.S., Offshore and Global hedge funds, by strategy, will be released later this month.
