Baby Boomers Seen Lacking Retirement Confidence

June 6, 2001 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Half of baby boomers over the age of 45 don't have much confidence in their retirement plan, according to a national survey.

The survey of more than 1,000 adults, commissioned by SunAmerica, shows that while most Americans are comfortable making investments, they believe that their retirement planning is not what it should be, in fact

  • nearly 40% believe their retirement plan is not safe, and
  • some 40% believe their retirement plan is not working hard enough to achieve their goals.

Additional research from SunAmerica shows that while the economic boom of the last decade gave investors a lot of confidence, the recent downturn has shaken it substantially.
