Back to Work Act Squeaks Through House Committee
The Education & the Workforce Committee green lighted the Back to Work Incentive Act (HR 444), by a vote of 23 to 22, according to a committee announcement. The accounts offer money to help in an employment search and to provide for a reemployment bonus for those who find a job quickly.
Eligible individuals may use the Back to Work accounts to purchase job training and key services, such as child care, transportation services, and housing assistance. Recipients will be able to keep the balance of the account as a cash reemployment bonus if they get a job within 13 weeks. States will be able to serve at least 1.2 million jobless Americans.
“Whether it be job training, transportation services, housing assistance, or child care, the Back to Work Incentive Act gives the unemployed new resources and additional flexibility during these times of economic recovery,” Rep. Jon Porter (R-Nevada), the lead sponsor of the legislation, said in a statement.
