Badgers Back EGTRRA

July 26, 2002 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - This afternoon Wisconsin Governor Scott McCallum signed into law a budget reform bill, which also happens to bring the Badger State into compliance with federal pension reform legislation.

That action, coupled with the actions of the Massachusetts legislature earlier this week, leave only North Carolina and Arkansas out of step with the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001 (EGTRRA).  Wisconsin Department of Revenue spokesperson David Blaska confirmed the inclusion of the provisions with PLANSPONSOR.com

The Wisconsin legislature passed a conference committee version of the budget reform bill on July 8, sending the bill to the governor for signature.  The signing marks the end of a contentious budget struggle in the state, although the pension provisions were not part of the problem.

The Wisconsin version includes all the EGTRRA pension fund provisions except for deduction of higher education expenses, because Wisconsin already provides a deduction, according to the Wisconsin DOR.

Details of the Wisconsin provisions are at http://www.dor.state.wi.us./news/020711.html
