Benefit Packages Reflect Regional Differences

February 7, 2001 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Tight labor markets are apparently resulting in wide differences, both regionally and demographically, in benefit packages.

The 2001 Survey of Employee Benefits from Business & Legal Reports, Inc. found:

  • While 37% of southern employers offered flextime, just 29% did so nationally
  • Nearly half (43%) of employers in the Far West offered signing bonuses of $10,000 or more, compared with just 21% of those in the Southwest, and 25% in the East
  • More than three-quarters (77%) of Northeastern employers offer a defined benefit pension plan to exempt employees, compared with only about half (52%) in the Southwest.
